Utah canyoneering offers a physically action packed day of hiking, scrambling, rappelling and sometimes swimming through ancient canyons carved through time. These trips offer up an exciting way to see some of Moab's less explored paths while getting you moving in every direction. Canyoneering is offered as half-day or 3/4-day trips with multiple canyons offered for varying experience levels.

HALF-DAY TRIPS


Medieval Chamber

Grandstaff Canyon offers a scenic day of hiking and rappelling through ancient canyons carved through time. This one-way trip starts in the Sand Flats Recreation area, with breathtaking panoramic desert and mountain views. The trail descends 800’ to the Colorado River corridor via 2 fantastic rappels and a 3.25 mile hike filled with lush greenery, a year-round-continuously flowing spring and towering red cliffs. This canyon has minimal scrambling, making it a great choice for all ages and those wanting a straight-forward approach to canyoneering.

Bow & Arrow Canyon

The Bow and Arrow canyoneering route is ideally situated close to town and offers an experience beyond just canyoneering—explore ancient petroglyphs and dinosaur tracks that line the canyon trail! This 2.5-mile loop features a gentle ascent, where you'll encounter an impressive 80-foot arch and reach a stunning viewpoint overlooking the 'Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area' and the La Sal Mountains. As you descend, you'll navigate through the canyon corridor via three rappels and one guided lower back to the Colorado River corridor. This canyon is perfect for both beginners and intermediate canyoneers!

Rock of Ages (Pritchett Canyon)

Great for the adventurer looking to get more hands-on with the wild - This canyon offers it all with a labyrinth of breath taking canyon views, arches, slot canyons, pools and 3 stunning rappels up to 140 ft! The Rock of Ages route covers 3.5 miles of moderate hiking and scrambling to get you moving in every direction and offers a great way to learn intermediate canyoneering skills. Pools may be encountered on this route requiring wading or swimming, adding on an extra layer of adventure.
